Happy Easter

Every Easter I can't stop thinking about Bugs Bunny...! Maybe it's because of his cartoon titled Easter Yeggs where he takes over for the Easter Bunny.

He’s simply the best character from the golden age of animation IMO. Bugs is crafty, funny, and full of chutzpah, what's not to love about him? I feel I’m so lucky to have grown up watching his zany adventures. Bugs Bunny cartoons truly are national treasures and can be enjoyed on so many levels. Bugs Bunny for president! Bug Bunny forever! What’s Up Doc?!!!!!

On a serious note we shouldn't forget the REAL meaning of Easter as this comic strip so faithfully demonstrates.

  9. Yeah, Zombie Jesus. (I've tasted his blood and flesh at a communion - yum!)

Bugs is one of the greats and you are right about him being a national treasure. Classic Americana. Forgive me for sharing a story.... (stop yawning!)

I was in a Maui Symphony rehearsal and we were practicing a piece by Wagner. The conductor stopped the orchestra to go over a section he wasn't satisfied with. In the brief pause I said loudly in my best Elmer Fudd vocal impersonation, "kill the wabbit!"... The orchestra cracked up and it interrupted the rehearsal for a few minutes - even the conductor was laughing.

    EVERYONE knows and loves Bugs.

  10. Kill the wabbit! - that's from "What's Opera Doc?"

Long live Bugs Bunny. His cross dressing is no doubt shocking to fun-duh-mental-ists!

  11. Thanks for the BB, SB!
    "technicolor hen fruit", indeed!

    Sweetness.

In related stuff, I had a high-school Latin teacher who looked like the Little Man From the Draft Board.

  13. You had me at Bugs Bunny. I cannot tell you how looking at that comic book cover took me back. Way back to being a little girl with a brand new Bugs Bunny "funny book". The magical fun of reading comics as a little kid was paradise for me.

  14. Becca – it’s real in that is was published… but not by marvel. A local weekly call called the Portland Mercury had a Spiderman issue around the time of the first spidey film. In it they had Spiderman’s greatest Bible stories. See here

Stephen – well somebody has to do the heavy lifting and webbing for Jesus.

    Rob – Kinda’ see above

Panada – that’s really funny… Sometimes bugs’ cartoons are like little operettas but they’re always funny.

Isis – No doubt about that. But then they can be bunch of killjoys…

Arkonbey – That’s the best line in the cartoon! Heh heh

I think everybody had a person that looked like him… mine was a high school buddy’s dad.

Randal – Well, if I think of Jesus as a superhero, he is a lot more fun!

POP – I’m glad to hear you’re a Bugs Bunny fan… it warms my heart!

  16. Yeah, just think if he hadn't been there. We might have ended up with some real crazy religions

  17. My favorite part of the Easter story has always been when Spidey called Jesus "Sunshine" and offered him a hearty breakfast.

As kids in Sunday School, I teacher had us draw our own artistic interpretations of their breakfast. In crayon! Thad Martin drew Grape Nuts in his and cried when the teacher told him he was Satan-inspired. But it's true. Grape Nuts have long been in the service of evil.
