From the LA Times Here
Evel Knievel, the flamboyant motorcycle stuntman whose thrilling triumphs and spectacular failures enshrined him as America's consummate daredevil, died today in Clearwater, Fla. He was 69.
To me he'll always be that wind-up toy from the 70s.

RIP Evel Knievel!!!
I hope he makes it across the void between this world and the next.
He was a little cool from my perspective as a kid, but I also got the whiff of an ego the size of Mt. Rushmore.
I guess he just didn't fascinate me as much as Ike Eisenmann! Now THERE'S somebody who could make an RV fly!
He lived a fair amount of time for someone who lived as hard as he did.
Farewell EK!
He was the Godfather of Extreme Sports.
I used to think he was interesting as a showman, until I learned he beat the hell out of a guy (his former press agent) with a baseball bat for writing a biography of him that Evel didn't like.
The toy was a good choice over the actual man.
Yeah me too.
