Random Comic info

The Ten-Cent Plague by David Hajdu is getting some good buzz. It deals with the censorship of comic books in the McCarthy era and the creation of the Comics Code Authority that ruined many a good story, many a good genre and many a good creator. Despite the vileness of the topic, I find this period in the history of comics incredibly fascinating and I intend to pick up this book at some point.

I bought the Justice League: the New Frontier video, but grabbed the single disk version. So, I don’t have any of the bonus material. As it turns out that’s the real treat of this release as reviews have been mixed. I haven’t broken the seal yet so I may take it back for a 2-disk set. Apparently there is a pretty good doc on the history of the Justice League.

Some interesting responses to my Men are from Marvel, Women are from DC and DC’s Super Feminine Mystique posts:

Brainfreeze here part 2

New Pic from Watchmen.

After production wrapped a while back on the Watchmen movie a frame was released.

One more hint that this could be a really great film.

Swine-

I was thinking about picking up new frontier but the reviews seem to be all over the place.

Love to hear what you think when you've watched it.

Also- have you read issue 5 of Marvel Zombies 2 yet? Like to hear what you think of the ending.

I picked up that elephantmen attack title, Conan and the new Doctor Who yesterday. Who wasn't bad, imo.

The New Frontier comic was fabulous. I have high hopes for the movie, I mean Darwyn Cooke worked on the original Batman Animated series, after all. I second Dean's call for a review.

Watchmen: Please be good. Please be good. I think (hope) it will be better than most comic adaptations because it is not well known outside of the 'comics community'.

Nice to see your DC/Marvel post is causing some thinking.

For the record, I loved the animated New Frontier, though a lot of stuff was cut out and merely referenced (I imagine for time purposes) but I don't feel I wasted those 75 minutes.

Also, I only got the single disc package and the history of the JLA is on it and was indeed, pretty cool. There is also a look at the upcoming animated Gotham Knight, which was pretty informative, too.

I'll be interested to hear what you thought when you do watch it. Have fun!

Dean – I’ll let you borrow it when I’m done.

I liked the end of Marvel Zombies but then it’s not really an end… Marvel zombies 3 coming next year I bet.

Arkonbey – Yes the comic is great, but some reviews of the movie have been negative, we’ll see I guess.

As for watchmen, I think it will be good but the story will be very compressed, so we’ll have to deal with that.

Dr Zaius - me too, Only a year to go!

DT – Well that’s good news! I’ll do a review this weekend.

Swine,

In all honestly I didn't like it as much as the first mini. Once the zombies started becoming "good" it really lost it's edge. The whole point seemed to be showing zombies getting it in really gross ways but the moral questions that the first mini tackled were pretty much non-existent in this set.

Also- I know they're talking part 3 but I can't for the life of me figure out what they'd do since the zombies are now "good."
