Cops bust a meth ring which used comic books to launder drug money. See here
The police seized half a million dollars works of comics.
I wonder if those plastic cover on those graded books would hold out the meth taint.

Mine is the The "Tank Man" What's Yours?
I've been thinking about the Tiananmen Square Massacre as this sad 20th anniversary occurs. Looking again at the powerful image of the lone man standing in front of a column tanks I realized, that for me, this is the most powerful image taken during my lifetime. There are others that come close but nothing has quite surpassed the Tank Man. I still get choked up about it these 2 decades later.

I was talking to a buddy at work and asked him what he felt was the most important image taken during his lifetime. Since he's older than me, he said the photo of the earth shot from the moon. Interesting!

Can The Punisher Franchise Finally Die Now?

Box Office Mojo reports that the film's opening take was 4 million... ouch. (EDIT: It did say 8 million when I first typed this up at on sunday night)
I never really liked the Punisher Character. He's just a guy that goes around shooting people. We've got plenty of that nonsense in the real world. Do we really need another film like this?
The bigger problem with the Punisher is that in essence he's really a villain, but I guess he just looked so cool that Marvel just had to migrate him over to the hero column, but to me he's just a cold-blooded killer and nothing more.
Additionally, the Punisher has a brand problem in that he's really a straight-up crime comic star in-disguise as a superhero comic star. This makes for all kinds of confusion for folks outside of comic book fandom. There weren't any crime comics being published (thanks to the CCA) back when the Punisher debuted so tame crime adventures had to appear in superhero adventures. Crime comics are back nowadays, as Sin City proves, but the Punisher appeared too early and so he will always be one of those guys in spandex... but a guy in spandex that shoots and kills folks... but he's a good guy... huh?!
Besides all that, it's not really a great time for action films either, and that's just another tide that War Zone is fighting against. Plus the reviews chewed up War Zone and spat it out.
Sadly, Frank Castle simply has too much comic book baggage. Yeah, Yeah I know some fun stuff was done with him in the comics these last few years but it's too little to late for a Franchise.
The failure of the latest Punisher is just another reason to hate the Comic Code Authority, among other things, IMO....
Ray Stevenson does look like the Frank Castle character though, so if this is really the end of the Punisher film forever then it goes out looking fantastic... unlike the previous Punisher films.

Comic Book Break-in
Last week, someone broke into to a relative’s house where I was storing most of my comic books… Now, I was greatly concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my relative but of course when I was told some of my comics were dumped on the floor and rifled through, I freaked.
My relative’s stuff looks OK for the most part and I told them about securing themselves from ID theft, but it really looks like the perp(s) were looking for money of which there was none. After looking around at what was searched through, I realized that the perp(s) spent the most of their time looking through my comics. Weird. I don’t have them in any kinda order despite a few title groupings, so I can’t be entirely sure that they didn’t steal any comics but if they did, they didn’t take much. I think they might have grabbed a random stack out of one box. I don’t have any real valuable comic books anyway, but I do have a few Bronze Age gems that they could have grabbed if they knew what they were looking for… but thankfully, they didn’t. I thought at least my early ‘80s X-men would have been taken but I guess they wasted their limited ransacking time by looking at Alpha Flight, Excalibur, and Power Pack.
A few comics were damaged but I’m just glad my collection is basically intact. This is one of the few legacies’ I have to give to Swinebread Jr. Needless to say, I removed my collection post haste to a new location.
Weird Fact: I discovered, while checking my comics over, that I have three copies of the Ambush Bug Christmas Special. Hmmmmm…. …all in excellent condition…
Here you can see the boxes are open and the comics are on the ground. I wonder if Gilded Lily on the cover of Alpha Flight #20 freaked ‘em out so much they stopped searchin’ TRY TO FORGET HER!
The drawer style storage boxes had been quickly opened and checked. Nope, no Action Comics number one here…
This drawer box was looked through by pulling up a few random issues but then the perp also shoved the box closed and bent fuck out of Amazing Spiderman Annual #20. You know this issue. It’s the one where time traveling Arno Stark kills the Blizzard…
