Watchmen Characters Revealed!

Director Zach Snyder has revealed the first shots of the Watchmen for his upcoming film. The film finished principal photography a few weeks back and comes out one year from today.

Revealed in the photos are the five main characters and cast members, The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman).

The Watchmen will hit theaters March 6th, 2009

They sure look great and are nice adaptations of the comic versions. In fact, I think I like Ozymandias' movie costume better than the original. This just keeps getting better and better. I'm more excited for this film than anything coming out this year.

I just got a strange feeling that that Watchmen will have this bizarre cultural affect and retro 80s will be very popular in 2009.

Sadly, this film and the graphic novel are more topical than ever.

Why can't the guys where thigh-high, high-heeled go-go boots? If you can kick ass in those monstrosities, you are really doing something.

where = wear
(ay caramba, my brain is going [again]).

arkonbey - me too

snab - I think you're missing the point. Watchmen is a dark exploration of the superhero genre warts and all and that includes go-go boots. When i get the book back from a guy that keeps forgetting to return it. I'll let you borrow it. You won't be disapointed. Honest

Nite Owl looked pretty pimp.

The art in the GN was good, but I can't help thinking what The Watchmen would have been like if Alan Davis drew it.

Actually, I often can't help but think what many comics (not drawn by Alan Davis) would look like drawn by Alan Davis.

Nick – I say yeah too. Earth 4 forever!

Dr S – ahhhhhhhhhhh

Arkonbey – I like Alan Davis but his work seems a little too… jovial to me for watchmen but a good Earth-4 story with Blue Beetle and the Question sounds great.

Dean – “Watchmen's status as a seminal book in the comic book field was recently boosted when acclaimed comic book author Stan Lee called it his "all-time favorite comic book outside of Marvel."[43] A review by "Revolution SF" goes on to say that Watchmen is "one of the most important stories in comic book history..."[43] In 2005, Time placed Watchmen on its list of the 100 Greatest English Language Novels from 1923 to the Present, stating that it was "told with ruthless psychological realism, in fugal, overlapping plotlines and gorgeous, cinematic panels rich with repeating motifs...a heart-pounding, heartbreaking read and a watershed in the evolution of a young medium." Watchmen was the only graphic novel to be listed.” Wikipedia

Zaius – Yes cool indeed!

swine: you're right. Alan Davis is too nice for the grittiness of Watchmen (actually, your word 'jovial' is a perfect description of AD's work). What classic artist would be good? Scienkweicz? Corben?

As far as Watchmen's status as seminal, I was talking to a friend last night who was only barely into comics growing up. When I mentioned the Watchmen, however, he gushed, "Oh, man! The Watchmen was great! I still have it somewhere!"
