I picked up Ghostbusters: the other side yesterday. Not too bad. But it's clear that they have that Man With No Name thing going with the characters looking nothing like the actors who played them in the movies.

omg. I have to get that just for Ursa the Ultra-bear's Dance of Destruction.

Dean: you do know that if they tried to make the characters look like the actors it'd suck. Star Wars, ST, and any movie adaptation show this to be true.

I dunno, Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness was pretty cool. Ash was unmistakebly Brucey.

I'm loving Ursa the Ultra bear, also.

The Serenity comics are drawn based on the actors' likenesses and I found them to be quite entertaining. Then again, there was a different kind of force driving them on that project. The Whedon force.

I can see your point. What I'm finding so off-putting is they seem to be going out of their way to make the characters not look like the actors. It practically screams "we don't have the rights to this person's image."

With the Man With No Name it actually detracts from the work. One of the things that made that character was Clint's trademark squint. They avoid drawing even that for fear of a lawsuit.

As an example of the other side of this you could take what don mentions in Whedon comics. Besides Serenity the Angel and Buffy comics all try and make the characters look like the actors.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. I haven't read Buffy, so I cannot say.

No offense meant!

None taken. :)

I think it would be fair to say that you know a heckuva a lot more about comic art than I do, arkon.

I guess I'm just a little ticked because I think this move towards drawing generic, boring versions of the characters is driven by lawyers instead of artists.
