Mine is the The "Tank Man" What's Yours?

I've been thinking about the Tiananmen Square Massacre as this sad 20th anniversary occurs. Looking again at the powerful image of the lone man standing in front of a column tanks I realized, that for me, this is the most powerful image taken during my lifetime. There are others that come close but nothing has quite surpassed the Tank Man. I still get choked up about it these 2 decades later.

Here's part one of the Tank Man doc posted in youtube:

link to the playlist for the whole doc here

I was talking to a buddy at work and asked him what he felt was the most important image taken during his lifetime. Since he's older than me, he said the photo of the earth shot from the moon. Interesting!

What image taken during your lifetime is the most important to you?

Movie of the Week: Xiu Xiu the Sent Down Girl

Sometimes communism dosen't kill people in violent revoutions. Sometimes it kills them by slowly crushing their sprits and dreams to dust until there is nothing left. That's Xiu Xiu the Sent Down Girl. This film takes place during one of the sad chapters in China's Cultural revolution known as the Down to the Countryside Movement, when a whole generation of children were sent out from the eastern cites to live and work in the western countryside. It is a tragic motion picture with tragic characters but it's a very affecting film.

(note: the music is not from the film)

Beijing Olympics: Faking Scandal Over Chinese Goddess

The Chinese Gods have admitted to deceiving the public over another highlight of the Olympics: the Goddess of Compassion, who blessed the games, was not considered attractive enough to represent China.

The hotty with big knockers that was introduced to be Guan Yin, the ancient Goddess of Mercy, had become an international sensation after her nasty trysts with tourists and athletes of both sexes.

But Lei Gong, the Duke of Thunder, felt forced to set the record straight. He gave an interview, which said that the attractive deity that raised eyebrows and passions with her lusty ways was not Guan Yin at all, but rather Chuang-Mu, the Chinese Goddess of the Bed and Sexual Delights. The real Guan Yin was considered too motherly and not sexy enough to represent the Heavily host of China and was swapped out at the eleventh hour.

The Jade Emperor had no comment on the switch.
