Charlton Heston Dead at 83

I couldn't stand Mr. Heston's politics but he was a very good actor. When I watch Chuck’s films, it's one of the few times that I can completely divorce a character from the actor and his obnoxious views. So, I gotta’ give props for his talent, plus he starred in three fantastic sci-fi films, one them being Planet of the Apes, which happens to be one of my all-time favorites.

So long Chuck, I’ll remember you because of your many great movies and the fact that there was a time when you supported civil rights.

I put no link, news of his death is all over the net.

Didn't like his politics but loved his acting. The man could really chew a scene. I believe he came from the Adam West school of theater if I'm not mistaken.

I agree with the comments about bad politics/ great acting.

I actually felt sorry for him when Michael Moore berated him in Bowling. I mean, the guy was not all there mentally and was an easy target.

Huh, I really didn't care for the guy...some of the movies were good, but not really because of him IMHO...

Now Yul Brynner....THERE'S a handsome dude!

"So let it be written! So let it be done!"

Snab – yup

Arkonbey – He was used by the Moore and he was used be NRA

LB – Yeah, heh heh, I’ve heard that from women, that he was a turnoff, Luckily his sex appeal or lack of it isn’t issue for me

After making a really good a point about Canada and America's news coverage of violence, I thought that Michael Moore pulled a really cheap stunt on Heston in his film, "Bowling For Columbine." He just badgered the poor man.

I don't actually bear Heston any ill will, even if I didn't agree with his views. He was a conservative from a different era. Men like him were nothing like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly. The fact that he played both Taylor and Zaius in both versions of "Planet of the Apes" is very cool, I thought.

Okay. Let's go pry the gun out of his fingers.

Sorry-I'm going to be the odd man out here.

Although a bit uncomfortable, I don't *and didn't* feel one bit sorry for Moore ambushing Charlie (which he did do...)

He had enough wherewithal to calmly just walk away once he realized what Moore was up to...so his whore-mongering (and probably WELL-PAID whoring) years earlier for the NRA is unforgivable.

The NRA makes big noise about any little gun thing, but when the Patriot Act went into effect....they were eerily quiet.

In fact, they were complicit in taking away rights from ALL Americans, because when you gut the Constitution and Bill of Rights with paper...a gun ain't gonna do you any good at all. They are hypocrites who sold their souls to the neo-cons for the ability to sell as many kinds of guns as possible, in any manner possible (over the internet, unregulated gun shows, etc....).

So the NRA can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.

LBug:the NRA is indeed effed up. I was talking to a hunter friend about them last weekend. Rather than hunters, the NRA caters to Gun Nuts Who Like to Kill Animals.

Yeah, and the Patriot Act thing. What was up with that?

They were also silent back when Dick broke a number of cardinal rules of hunting and firearm safety.

I think what bugs me most, now that you've mentioned it. Is their hypocrisy.

Arkonbey-Nail meet head!

I'm fortunate that nearly all gun owners I know are hunters-REAL hunters (not the "shoot it from my tricked out pick up truck" idiots).

Real hunters are conservationists, and work to help the environment ALOT (case in point, our neighbor, who belongs to a private duck hunting club, spends about 90% of his time there cleaning out non-native invasive weeds, trail maintenance, etc and the other 10% actually hunting).

I guess I was naive, but when all this crap came down, I thought the NRA wouldn't stand for it..."they'll speak up!"-Nope, not a word, not a peep!

That stupid Virginia Tech guy bought his gun over the internet...but "Homeland Security" didn't care about that...

Hypatia: Interesting that you mention duck hunters. My friend is a waterfowler and he finds that, as a group, they are much more environmentally conscious than big game hunters.

We thought it might be because of the migration and habitat needs (along migration routes) of waterfowl, waterfowl hunters understand the need to protect the environment better.
