Just a quick reminder…

Here’s the best music video ever, Whip It by Devo. It was made in 1980 the year before MTV began. Thank You. That is all.

Edit: I guess what I meant was that Whip It is most important music video… …Yes, it’s more important than thriller IMO

It is a good one, but not on the Snabulus Best Ever awards. I would need to think about that one.

I disagree, Beautiful World is the best video ever (and in fact the best Devo video). I think even Devo agrees, or at least it said something like that in their Wikipedia entry.

This is probably in the top 20 for me...I personally like Devo's "Beautiful World" better...it's like a Reich-Wing PR film (NOT!)

The Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" has a soft spot in my heart as well...

I third (fourth?) Beautiful World.

Swiney - I am Legend this coming weekend?

snab – Devo were pioneers and innovators. The music video would be nothing without them. It’s a question of timing, they were way ahead of the curve.

OD – I would agree but Beautiful world is a transcendent piece of Technological Art manifested for the ages and is not merely a music video. ..and sadly Whip it is more influential

LB -This has nothing to do with like or not like it has to do with influence. (Not to be a jerk about it)

Dean – see above – I’m game for I am legend.

Just to clarify: I really like Devo and Whip It. They were completely awesome. Their body of work had a giant impact on the early MTV era. I should have prefaced my earlier comment thusly.

DEVO!!!!!

Yes, they were pioneers and innovators (who got scalped). (That's the name of their anthology, BTW.) They were an important fixture of MTV throughout the 80s, and their videos were among the most worth watching.

Hmm...Swinebread, as a DEVO fan, are you familiar with Polysics? (Wikipedia site.)

They are, for all practical purposes, the Japanese DEVO, though they are also influenced a lot by The Tubes and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Mark Mothersbaugh even used to use one of their CDs as his call holding BGM because he was so impressed with them. (Check them out on YouTube...but be warned that their male vocalist tends to shriek a lot.)

snab - that's cool

moody - the polysics are great. I wish I would have picked up their cds when I was in Japan but it was a rushed trip and so I spaced. I first heard of them from the Made in Japan CD. I've watched all the videos I can. Plus, they have girls in the band! How cool is that.
